As for the public sector, citizens are able to address many life situations throught electronic services (eGovernment services), thanks to the intensive computerization of public administration. It is possible for citizens to handle over the internet such personal agenda as: report a change of residence, announce birth of a child, buy or sell a car, etc. Similarly, entrepreneurs may use the services associated with their business such as the establishment of trade, commercial registration, or registration in the register of entrepreneurs.
An important criterion for the use of electronic services is reliable proof of identity of the person requesting access to the service. In the electronic world, we use the electronic identity.
eID cards are an important pillar in a process of introducing of the electronic services that shall enable the citizens to communicate with the government over the Internet. The fundamental requirement for accessing these services is a secure authentication and an unambiguous identification of a person.
